Running Better Meetings for Remote First Teams

Summary

Running Better Meetings for Remote First Teams

Times are changing, now even when we are at the same office we tend to communicate in a virtual manner due to time constraints, and of course, we need to have meetings with our remote teammates.

One of the biggest issues in our now remote world is how to handle meetings, how do we communicate better?

What 3 actionable tips would you give to a person leading virtual meetings to make a difference in their meetings?

1️⃣ Purpose:

    a. Be super clear on the purpose of your meeting, and what kind of media category your meeting will be about.

2️⃣ Explicit Rules:

     a. Make explicit rules for your meetings and you can see them as a pop-up store.

     b. They can be irrelevant after the meeting, but for the meeting, these are the rules, of how we should do things.

     c. These rules should be in a way that benefits the meeting.

3️⃣ Artful participation:

     a. Use a reminder where we can ask ourselves at any time: Is my current behavior in this meeting the greatest contribution I can make to the effectiveness of this collaboration?

There was an example of someone at a meeting that stand up and said: “I shouldn't be in here. You invited me, but I have no place in here.” So he just left that meeting and that is an example of Artful participation.
